sayd kyng reigned, and what persecutiō was in his tyme for lacke of searche and knowledge of Gods worde, both in the dioces of Lincolne vnder Byshop Smyth (who was erector of the house of Brasen nose in Oxford) as also in the dioces of Couentry, and other places moe: and further what punishment and alteration commōly God sendeth vpon Cities and realmes publike for neglectyng the safetie of his flock, sufficiētly in the former booke hath bene alredy specified. Wherin many thyngs more amplely might haue ben added, incidēt in þe reign of this prince, which we haue for breuitie pretermitted. For he that studyeth to comprehend in story all thynges, whiche the cōmon course and vse of lyfe may offer to the writer, may sooner finde matter to occupie him selfe, then to profite other.
