Ord, Dorothy (transported 1728)

Dorothy Ord, of St. Faith's, in the Ward of Faringdon without, was found guilty of stealing a box containing 153 guineas, two crowns, and a King Edward's shilling belonging to her master Nehemiah Farmer. She was sentenced to death. She petitioned the King for mercy, asking to be transported instead of executed. The petition was signed by the prosecutor, Nehemiah Farmer and six Common Counsel men of London.1 She was successful in her supplication as she was transported to Virgina. She boarded the ship Elizabeth, captained by William Whithorne on 27 June 1728 and arrived at Potomack, Virginia in August 1729.2
