Biographical Pages

This category is for pages containing biographical information about people who appear in the Old Bailey Proceedings Online. Anyone can browse these pages, but if you wish to edit or create new pages, you will need to sign up for a user account: find out more here.

What do we mean by 'biographies'?

You don't need to have produced a full-scale life history. If you have uncovered even a few snippets of information about someone beyond what appears in a trial report, whether the person was a defendant, victim, witness or court official, we encourage you to share what you know!

Contributed material must be:

• relevant to the content of the Old Bailey Proceedings Online;
• factual and supported by references to reliable sources (primary and/or secondary). The wiki provides a facility for incorporating auto-numbered footnotes in a page.

Non-factual or unverifiable material is liable to be removed without notice.

How you can make your contributions even better...

We will try to create links between trial (and Ordinary's Accounts) transcripts in the OBPO database and related pages here at the wiki (similar to the ones we've already made between Ordinary's Accounts and trial transcripts), so anyone reading a transcript at the main site will be able to simply click on a link and read more about the people in the trial. You might find that there are other people out there who have managed to fill in different parts of the same puzzle as yourself...

In order for us to identify relevant pages and create these links, we need your help when you publish pages:

• please include all relevant reference numbers from the Old Bailey Proceedings Online database. These numbers appear in a highlighted box at the top of a trial or Ordinary's Account
  • Trial reference numbers start with t - eg t17841208-82
  • OA references start with oa - eg oa17230617
  • Supplementary Material references start with o - eg o16881010-3
• please tag the reference numbers as page categories (in addition to any other categories you think are relevant to the page).

Finally, if you tag your page with the category Biographies, it will be listed on this page so that both we and other visitors will be able to find it more easily.
