Corrections guidelines

You are very welcome to let us know about significant errors in trials and Ordinary's Accounts. All you have to do to make your corrections easily visible is to tag the page with the category Corrections; they will then be listed on this page and we will review them.

However, please note that we have limited resources to deal with corrections, and it may take a while for any revisions to appear in the Proceedings website. We prioritise the following:

• Errors in Personal names
• Errors in Place names
• Errors in Dates
• Errors in the categorisation of Crimes, verdicts and punishments
• Omissions from the original text
• Missing images, or missing/erroneous links to images

It is very unlikely that we will be able to correct minor typographical errors within the texts. It was never possible to apply the proofreading standards of traditional scholarly editions of sources to such a massive project. (See the main site for an explanation of the methods used and their limitations.) Where a perfectly accurate reading of the text is required, users are strongly advised to refer to the original page image files.

Please note also that we do not 'correct' factual or typographical errors that were present in the original text; we present the text exactly as it originally appeared as far as this is possible. But we may be able to correct the data for search purposes, for example with personal names, so long as we can be certain of what the correct version should be.

Please provide as much identifying information as possible in addition to detailing the nature of the error/omission, eg:

• the date of the session
• full name(s) of people concerned
• trial references
• URL of a problem image
