Historical Background Pages
From Old Bailey Wiki
This is a broad category for pages containing historical background relevant to the Old Bailey Proceedings Online. This might include relatively broad essays on topics in London history, crimes, punishments, and so on, or narrowly-focused pages on now-forgotten objects, occupations, places, etc, mentioned in the Old Bailey trials. Anyone can browse these pages, but if you wish to edit or create new pages, you will need to sign up for a user account: find out more here.
Contributed material must be:
- relevant to the content of the Old Bailey Proceedings;
- factual and supported by references to reliable sources (primary and/or secondary). The wiki provides a facility for incorporating auto-numbered footnotes in a page.
Non-factual or unverifiable material is liable to be removed without notice.
Rather than placing a page directly in this category, it may be more effective to assign it to a narrower category or categories, which you then make into a subcategory/subcategories of this category.
