Welcome!
This is a community wiki for users of the Old Bailey Proceedings Online.
We welcome contributions of relevance to the material contained in the Old Bailey Proceedings Online, especially biographical information, but also material that can add historical context to the site and help other researchers, teachers and students, and information about errors in our transcripts and missing material.
What is this wiki for?
There are a number of broad types of material that we would particularly welcome. Some could come under more than one, of course, and this list is certainly not meant to be exhaustive.
- Biographies - biographical material about individuals and families who are documented in the Old Bailey Proceedings and Ordinary's Accounts
- Corrections - let us know about transcription and markup errors in the Old Bailey Proceedings Online
- Associated records - information from or about related sources beyond the Old Bailey Proceedings Online
- Historical background - including all those puzzling references in trial reports to obscure objects and forgotten places!
- Teaching resources - for school and university teaching
- The Bibliography - you can help us to keep this up to date
We do, however, reserve the right to remove any material that is not relevant to the main site, inaccurate or fictional, offensive or abusive, plagiarised or copyright-infringing, commercial or political: see our terms and conditions for details.
Getting started
Before you plunge in, explore the site a little, especially if you've never contributed to a wiki before. Use the search boxes and the quick links in the sidebar. Find out whether there are existing pages on topics with which you are familiar, to which you might add further information, or whether you have entirely new material to add.
- What is a wiki? - An introduction
- Read the terms and conditions carefully, and then sign up for a user's account so that you can create and edit pages.
- Quick Help to keep at hand when working on pages
- Help Pages - the full list
- You can practise using the simple formatting rules in the sandbox area.
