Before you can create and edit pages, you will first need to sign up for an ordinary user account and familiarise yourself with the basics of using the wiki. Find out more here, read our Terms and Conditions, and sign up here.

Our aim is to ensure, as far as possible, that the SchoolsWiki area of the wiki can be trusted as an educational resource. Therefore, we restrict editing to those involved professionally in teaching and education. This includes:

  • schoolteachers, teaching assistants, college and university lecturers
  • academics in education research and training teachers
  • postgraduate students on teacher-training courses
  • other postgraduate students with relevant teaching responsibilities

Once you have a user account, you will need to contact us in order to be added to the 'teacher' group. You should, if possible, send your message from your institutional email account. Please provide the following:

  • Your full name
  • Your username (but not your password!)
  • Your institution's name and address
  • Your status at that institution (teacher, PGCE student, etc)
    • If you're retired or not currently affiliated with an educational institution, please give your most recent institution and status instead.
  • Please give a little additional information about your educational background and interests, what sort of resources you're interested in adding to the site, and so on. (We will not share any personal information with anyone else.)

We will let you know as soon as possible if your request has been approved. This should not take more than a couple of weeks, but if you plan to use the pages for a specific course, we advise that you give us at least a month's notice.

We strongly recommend that you edit your profile page (the link is at the very top of the page when you're logged in) to provide other users with your professional information.

Please bear in mind that you cannot make any pages 'private'; anything you create will be viewable by any visitor to the site, and editable by anyone with 'teacher' privileges. (We may consider requests to prevent other users from editing pages you have created but you will have to provide a very good reason to do so.)

'Teacher' editing privileges can be revoked at any time, at our discretion.
