Translation of Book II

pb 45 vThe duke of Bar, the duke of Lorraine, the Dauphin of Auvergne and the lord of Coucy were in pursuit of the English and for that reason were not so promptly recalled, but the count of Flanders was informed and requested to be present in the city of Rheims on the appointed day, the feast of All Saints which was to fall that year on a Sunday. The Ghenters deeply lamented the death of the king of France. They sensed that they would have a harder time of it, given the new advisors the young king would have, for during their war, king Charles of happy memory had been very well disposed towards them, while he had shown little affection for the count of Flanders.

Now we will speak of the English, then return to the coronation of young king Charles, gradually recounting the period of his reign and the things which happened to him in his lifetime.
